Taylor Barr Talks About Eating Lunch at Cinelli’s Pizza

Friday, June 13th, 2008 |

Today my buddy Taylor Barr met me for lunch at Cinelli’s Pizza at North Hills. I am a huge fan of the restaurant, but Taylor had never eaten there before. We sat outside and both ordered the lunch special (2 pieces of pizza and a drink). You can choose from a few different styles of pizza at Cinelli’s but I always go with “Grandma’s Pizza.”

Here’s how Cinelli’s describes Grandma’s Pizza on their website:

Thin crust, baked in a pan, litely topped with mozzarella cheese & Italian plum tomatoes. Sprinkled with Olive Oil, fresh garlic, basil and oregano. An Olde World Recipe that dates back to our Grandma and her Grandma, brought to NY by our mother and now brought here to NC by the Cinelli brothers.

The extra herbs and fresh ingredients give this pizza a great flavor. I highly recommend it.

Check out the video below to hear what Taylor thought about Cinelli’s and Grandma’s Pizza.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Dinner at Hot Point Cafe

Monday, May 26th, 2008 |

This is a guest post by Lenore Ramm, an IT analyst and blogger who writes about food and restaurants at “Eclectic Glob of Tangential Verbosity.” Visit her at http://eronel.blogspot.com/. We’re always looking for people to contribute to this site, so if you’d like to write for us, please let us know by contacting us.

I recently met a group of friends at Hot Point Cafe, in North Hills Mall. It’s a brightly lit cafe offering a wide selection of food at very reasonable prices. I ordered the Crab Cake Salad, above, for only $6.25. It was a really huge meal and this was only the small size. The crab cake was very good and contained a decent percentage of crab meat. The salad was unexpectedly spicy, but not excessively so. The menu did mention “green demon pesto”, so I should have guessed. As you can see, the salad had a lot of parmesan cheese and sesame-ginger salad dressing, which someone more health conscious than I might consider asking to be placed on the side.

This is the catfish quesadilla, which was the meal of choice for the author of North Hills Buzz. It looked very impressive, as you can see. (more…)

Midtown and Bar 115 Renovation Complete

Saturday, February 9th, 2008 |

I walked by Midtown and Bar 115 today on my way to Panera Bread at North Hills and noticed that they’d finished renovating. I believe they may have opened back up a few weeks ago. I didn’t actually go inside, but definitely plan on making it over there soon. What are everyone’s thoughts on the new look?

Ruth’s Chris Coming to North Hills

Ruth’s Chris Steak House Logo

According to the Triangle Business Journal, Ruth’s Chris Steak House will take the place of JK’s at North Hills Raleigh. JK’s reportedly will close on February 23, and Ruth’s Chris is expected to open on April 1.

I’ll be sad to see JK’s go. I loved their bar and the bar menu, especially the Big Ass Burger. From what I observed, JK’s had a decent crowd whenever I went, so I’m not sure if they choose to close or if Kane decided not to renew their lease.

I can’t wait to try Ruth’s Chris, and JK’s is reportedly opening a new location somewhere in Raleigh in the coming months.

Midtowne and Bar 115 Renovation

If you haven’t noticed yet, Midtown and Bar 115 has been closed because they’re re-modeling the restaurant. According to 115midtown.com, they’re redoing their website, too. The grand re-opening (of both the restaurant and the website) will be January 28.

I’m curious to see what changes they make. I actually have only eaten there once, but when I did, the food was great.

Check out our page about Midtowne and Bar 115 to see more information about the restaurant (hours, contact info, etc). Some of this may change once they reopen, and if this happens, we’ll change our information, too.

Feel free to share your thoughts about Midtowne with North Hills Buzz (but only if they’re good-just kidding). We really do enjoy hearing what you think.

Chick-Fil-A North Hills on the Web

Monday, November 26th, 2007 |

The Chick-Fil-A at North Hills recently opened its own website, cfanorthhills.com.

The site has basic information about this Chik-Fil-A location and a few features. There is a link to online ordering, however its only if you want to order a LOT of chicken sandwiches ($100 minimum for delivery, $30 minimum for pickup). There is also a calendar of North Hills events and other information about the restaurant.

One thing I hadn’t seen before is that every Tuesday night is Kid’s Night. From 5-8pm, kids can get a free 4ct meal.

Check out the site at: cfanorthhills.com

Open Table

Monday, August 27th, 2007 |

 Open Table logo

Open Table is a great resource that allows you to make dinner reservations online. A couple North Hills restaurants have joined the select group of Open Table in Raleigh to make booking that reservation easy. I hate calling restaurants now, because you often get the automated answering service and you have to hit a few numbers before you can even speak to a real person. With Open Table, those days are over. All you have to do is pick the restaurant, pick a time and then they send you a confirmation email with your reservation details.

A couple North Hills restaurants have joined the select group of Raleigh restaurants that are available to book through Open Table. Now you can make your reservations at Vivace and South through the website. Check it out.
