After the pool here at The Alexan was closed for about two weeks for renovations (not sure why they decided to do this during the middle of the summer), I was excited to see that it was open again on Friday, July 18. It didn’t stay open for long though.
On Saturday night, someone broke some glass in the pool and so the pool is closed again. This notice was posted on residents’ doors on Sunday:
We are sorry to report that someone has broken glass beer bottles around the pool. For your safety and to abide by Wake County Regulations we have CLOSED the pool for sanitation.
The notice went on to say that the community manager here is offering a $500 reward for information leading to identifying whoever was responsible for this.
Glass isn’t allowed anywhere in the pool area and most of us residents here are pretty annoyed that someone would do this. Today, it looks like all the water has been drained out of the pool so the glass can be cleaned up. Hopefully the clean-up process won’t take too long and we’ll be able to use the pool again soon.

I heard a rumor that Vivace will be serving drinks and food at the pool at the North Hills Alexan apartments on the weekends this summer. I think this is a great idea. People will definitely shell out some money to have good food/drinks delivered to them. Can anyone confirm or deny this story?
If Vivace does start serving drinks/food, will you take advantage of it?
Since I’ve been playing with Google Earth some today, here’s a shot of the pool here at The Alexan.

It’s about time. Fresh off the North Hills Raleigh press is the news that the Alexan at North Hills finally has recycling. It only took about 2 years…but it’s here now, and we should be glad. No more throwing bags of glass bottles and cans down the trash shoot and hearing all the bottles shatter at the bottom.
According to the flyers posted around the apartment complex, there are now two recycling bins located in the loading dock area (LL on the main service elevator). The containers are labeled for plastic and paper.
Hold on! Does this mean there is still no way to recycle glass or cans!? North Hills Buzz will investigate and report back with an update…

Here’s the dilemna. I live in a nice area (North Hills) in a nice apartment complex (The Alexan). But for some reason, they signed a deal with INC Group so I can’t get Time Warner Cable. The only HD channels I can get are through satellite (Dish Network). So I can’t get local HD channels. I have this great 42 inch plasma TV and I won’t be able to watch the Super Bowl in HD.
Last year I was really excited about the Super Bowl, and tried everything I could think of to get it in HD. I tried getting a big antenna, but still couldn’t pick up any channels. 50 feet of cable and setting up the antenna outside (near the area where the Lassiter is supposed to be built) still didn’t do anything.
I’ve heard rumors that some people can pick up HD channels over the air. Sadly, there’s way to much interference where I am (first floor). Does anyone out know of a solution? Is there a package with INC Group that I’m not aware of that will give me local channels in HD?
