Friday, September 19th, 2008

30threads.com, which highlights stories from the Triangle area, recently saw our post about the North Hills Iron Chef Competition and decided to get more information.  Wayne Sutton from 30threads had a chance to chat with a chef from Mura (John Anderson) and its GM (James Park) about the competition. The event, which benefits the Interfaith Food Shuttle, starts tomorrow morning at 9:00am over by the Commons/Farmers’ Market here.

Check out the 30threads video below to hear what these guys have to say about the competition and come out tomorrow to see chefs from Mura and Bonefish Grill battle it out.

Effigy Rocks Block Party for Charity

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Last night’s block party (sponsored by The Spectacle, Von Kekel Salon and Vivace) benefiting WakeMed’s Just for Kids Kampaign was an awesome time. There was beer and wine, food from Vivace and music by Effigy, who played an assortment of rock covers from bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, ACDC and Lit. Everyone really seemed to be having a good time, and hopefully the event raised some money for a good cause.

Here are a couple pictures from the event. If you’re not busy tonight, Erick Smallwood will be playing over at the Commons from 6:00-8:30pm.

The Spectacle and Others Sponsor a Block Party for Charity

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Before the North Hills Iron Chef Competition this weekend, there will be another charity event tomorrow (Thursday, September 18).

The Spectacle is hosting a block party to benefit Wake Med’s Just for Kids Kampaign, whose goal is to facilitate donations for WakeMed’s Children’s, a special wing of the hospital that will be dedicated to giving kids the best atmosphere, services and treatment possible. Hospitals can be a scary place for kids, so WakeMed’s Children’s aims to create an environment that caters to kids and makes the hospital experience better for them.

The block party will run from 7:00pm - 9:00pm tomorrow night and will take place outside by The Spectacle, Vivace and Von Kekel Salon, who are also sponsors of this event. A four-piece accoustic band will provide live music, and Vivace will provide food and drinks.

Donations will be encouraged and raffle tickets will be sold to give away great prizes. The Spectacle is donating 10% of all purchases tomorrow night to the charity, and the other sponsors will likely donate proceeds from sales as well.

You can check out the official event invitation here. Come out tomorrow night for good food/music and support a great cause!
