Smiles Over Raleigh: A Benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation

If you’re looking for a fantastic way to spend a beautiful Friday afternoon in North Hills, look no further! Renaissance Dental Center and Hart and Wells Orthodontics will host the Smiles Over Raleigh Renaissance Festival to benefit the Make-A-Wish^® Foundation of Eastern N.C. this Friday, October 30^th from 4-9 p.m. at 3803 Computer Drive in Raleigh. Those in attendance will be treated to the musical stylings of the Party Nuts, delicious food, a silent auction, free gifts from local businesses and more.

Smiles Over Raleigh is the first charity event of its kind in the North Hills area — some lucky guests will have the chance to see the lights of Raleigh from a hot air balloon. And since giving is not without its rewards, the doctors at Renaissance Dental and Hart and Wells Orthodontics are offering discounts on dental or orthodontic treatment for Make-A-Wish^® donors.

The Make-A-Wish^® Foundation works hard to make the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses come true. Stop by on Friday to enjoy a fun family event that helps us give back.

A Walk For Wishes Fashion Event – Recap

On Friday night, the “A Walk For Wishes” fashion show took place outside of The Spectacle and Vivace here at North Hills. Over 100 people came out to watch the event and hopefully donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which was the charity tie-in. Kitty Kinnin was the MC during the show, while male and female models walked outside in front of Vivace wearing styles from Liles Clothing Studio and Vermillion.

After the show, Chalon Carter gave a very moving speech about how the Make-A-Wish Foundation positively impacted her life when she was sick as a teenager. She told the story of how she was able to visit Hawaii because of the Foundation and what that trip meant to her.

Overall, it was a great event for a great cause.

A Walk for Wishes Fashion Show Tonight

Tonight “A Walk for Wishes” fashion show will take place outside of Vivace. This open-air, red carpet event is being presented by The Spectacle and Vivace and proceeds from the event go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Models will be featuring clothing and styles from Liles Clothing Studio and Vermillion.

The runway walk will take place from 6:00-6:30pm and music from BC3 will run from 6:30-9:00pm. This should be a cool event and I’m going to try to make it out there for a few minutes tonight. Hope to see you there!

Bike for Hope 2009

Just wanted to share some information about the Bike For Hope race on April 25. This is a bicycling fundraiser for the Foundation of Hope for Research and Treatment of Mental Illness. There will be 50-, 32- and 5-10 mile Family Fun Ride routes available as well as Big Wheel races, a bike decorating contest and more family activities. The cost is $35 per adult, $15 for children, or $75 per family. Prize drawings and lunch provided. Raleigh Joins Worldwide Effort in Support of Charity:Water Tomorrow

I’ll be joining a group of Triangle residents tomorrow at Raleigh Twestival, which is a party at Edge Office to support Charity:Water, an organization that is dedicated to bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. People all over the world (over 175 cities) are also meeting up to support this cause tomorrow. This is a HUGE event and a great example of people harnessing the power of social media for social change. Using only the power of word-of-mouth, social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, these people will all join together in a one-day fund raising effort to help provide access to clean drinking water to some of the 1.1 billion people worldwide who don’t have this.

100% of the money raised tomorrow night goes directly to Charity:Water. A $20 donation can provide water for one person in a developing nation for 20 years. I encourage you to purchase a ticket to this event ($11.40 in advance) and support this great cause, or donate directly to Charity:Water if you can’t make it. Midtown Music Fall Harvest Concert Series – Sugar

The Midtown Music Fall Harvest Concert Series continues tomorrow night with a performance by Sugar from 6:30pm – 9:00pm over at the Commons at North Hills. Sugar plays cover songs by bands such as Jet, Journey, Bon Jovi, No Doubt, Tom Petty and The Killers–a very cool variety of music. Their shows are always a lot of fun so come check them out Thursday night.

We also wanted to let you know about the Midtown Harvest Run at North Hills on Saturday. This is a 5k fun run and kids dash that benefits the American Diabetes Association. The races starts at 9:00am and the course takes runners through some of the nice neighborhoods that surround North Hills. Click here for more information and registration.

Mura is Ready for Iron Chef Competition

30threads.com, which highlights stories from the Triangle area, recently saw our post about the North Hills Iron Chef Competition and decided to get more information. Wayne Sutton from 30threads had a chance to chat with a chef from Mura (John Anderson) and its GM (James Park) about the competition. The event, which benefits the Interfaith Food Shuttle, starts tomorrow morning at 9:00am over by the Commons/Farmers’ Market here.

Effigy Rocks Block Party for Charity

Last night’s block party (sponsored by The Spectacle, Von Kekel Salon and Vivace) benefiting WakeMed’s Just for Kids Kampaign was an awesome time. There was beer and wine, food from Vivace and music by Effigy, who played an assortment of rock covers from bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, ACDC and Lit. Everyone really seemed to be having a good time, and hopefully the event raised some money for a good cause.

Here are a couple pictures from the event. If you’re not busy tonight, Erick Smallwood will be playing over at the Commons from 6:00-8:30pm.
