For everyone that came out to see Liquid Pleasure at North Hills last night, I hope you enjoyed the show. Here are a few pictures we snapped at the event:

Emerging Artists on the Commons

Monday, July 28th, 2008

We have some exciting news for those of you who have enjoyed the music at North Hills this summer. A mini-concert series called Emerging Artists on the Commons will kick off this Friday on the lawn across from the movie theater. This mini-series will feature local bands (mostly acoustic pop/rock alt) from 6:30 - 8:30pm every Friday in August. They’ll be using a smaller stage than the one that is set up for the Thursday night music, so the traffic flow won’t be interrupted.

As usual, the shows will be free. Here’s the schedule so far:

August 1The Joshua Long Band

August 8Old Avenue

August 15Erik Smallwood

August 22 – TBD

August 29 – Old Avenue and Friends

I think these shows will definitely appeal to people who may be looking to hear some nice, low-key music on Friday nights. What do you think?

Hawaiian Luau at Mura

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Who’s ready to get lei’d? At 9:00 pm on Thursday after the music at North Hills there will be a luau at Mura outside on the patio. The cost is $10 and proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Assoication. It should be a fun time, with music, good food (I’ve heard there will be BBQ pork and pineapple fried rice, as well as sushi), and a raffle.

Sponsors include Budweiser, Absolut and Red Bull. NBC-17 will be covering the event and doing some live video streaming, and I’ll be there taking pictures and video as well. Come out to the event and help support the MDA in their mission to fight neuromuscular diseases that affect more than a million Americans.

It’s Thursday and you know what that means. The Midtown Music Shag Series continues tonight with a performance by Part Time Party Time Band over at the Commons from 6:00-8:30pm.

Midtown Music Shag Series Continues with The Entertainers

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

It’s Thursday, and you know what that mean- music at North Hills Raleigh. The Midtown Music Shag Series will feature a performance by The Entertainers from 6:00pm - 8:30pm tonight on the Commons, which is over by the movie theater, Cinelli’s and Fox and Hound.

The Entertainers hail from Charlotte, NC, and you can check out some of their music by visiting their MySpace page. One of their more well-known songs is called “Living for the Summer,” which helped the group gain recognition and following when it was released in 1980.

Come check out the music tonight and have a good time.

Beach Music Concert Series Continues with Billy Scott and the Party Prophets

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

WE GOT IT WRONG. Apparently another band, Black and Blue, is playing tonight at North Hills. Sorry for the confusion. We were just going by what was on the printed schedule.

The Beach Music Series at North Hills Raleigh continues tonight. Beach music legend Billy Scott and the Party Prophets will play a free concert over at the Commons (across from the movie theater) from 6:00 - 8:00pm.

The band has been playing beach music at parties and functions for over 30 years. They’re probably best known for their hit “My Kind of Girl,” which was the #1 song n the Rhythm N’ Beach Top 40 charts for 20 weeks at one point. The band is in the Beach Music Hall of Fame and the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.

Check the band out tonight and bring some friends for some fun.

Midtown Music Series Continues Tonight With The Embers

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Tonight from 6:00-8:00pm you can catch some great beach music at North Hills by The Embers, a legendary beach music band with over 17 albums. It should be a nice night for the Midtown Music Shag Series, unlike last week when it was cloudy and drizzling rain.

The stage is set up over at the Commons, right across from the movie theater. Park anywhere you can find a spot.

Events This Week

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Just wanted to make sure yall were aware of some of the events here at North Hills this week. Thursday, the Midtown Music Shag Series continues with a performance by the Catalinas from 6:00-8:30pm. Everyone I’ve talked to has had a great time the last two weeks, so I’m sure this week will be just as fun. The only thing to keep in mind this week is that you are NOT allowed to bring your own coolers/drinks anymore…guess they want you to buy drinks. Since they’re putting on these events for free, you can’t really complain about this.

On Saturday night North Hills will play host to a really unique fashion event called Strut 2008. The event features fashion and designers that have local ties, and there will be a full runway and red carpet entrance. Organizers expect to sell out all 750 tickets, which range in price from $25 to $100 (all the $100 front row seats are gone already). The News and Observer recently did a nice write up on the event that you can read here, or you can see more details at the official Strut 08 website.

This will be filmed and turned into a 90-minute TV special airing Saturday May 10 at 8pm on CW 22. I’m not that knowledgeable about fashion in Raleigh, but I think this is a pretty interesting event for Raleigh and North Hills, and I look forward to seeing how it goes.

Midtown Music Shag Series - The Castaways

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Tomorrow (Thursday, April 24) from 6:00pm-8:30pm will be the second week of the Midtown Music Shag Series here at North Hills. After The Embers played a great show last week, The Castaways take the stage tomorrow. Last week’s event brought out a good number of people - I am guessing at least 500-600 - and the drinks weren’t too expensive, either (beer starts at $3). I didn’t stay for long due to other plans, but I had a good time.

The weather should be awesome tomorrow (sunny and high 78) so I look forward to seeing some you out there, if you can make it.

Strut 2008 Details

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

What: Strut 2008 is a music and fashion show that will take place at North Hills. The show will feature fashions from local designers such as Amy Stevenson (jeans), Holly Aiken (dresses) and Elizabeth Yarborough (jewelry). Models and area boutiques, such as NV Clothes for Men, will also be at the show, which will be televised. The show should be a good time for everyone, as there will be great fashions, live music and dance performances.

When: Saturday, May 3 at 9:00pm

Tickets: Prices range from $25-$100. Visit eTix to purchase your Strut 08 tickets

Other Details: Strut 2008 will take place at what they’re calling the “Store House” at North Hills. I think this is likely where the men’s sale took place, across from Wachovia Bank. The press release states that the venue will have a red-carpet entrance, 640 square-foot stage and 40-foot runway.

This is definitely an interesting event for Raleigh. The city isn’t really considered to be a fashion hot spot, but maybe this event will change people’s perceptions and make them aware of what’s going on the Raleigh fashion world. For more details about the event, visit Strut08.com.
