Hyatt Summerfield Suites Hotel Coming to North Hills

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Yesterday Kane Realty announced a partnership with Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company to build a Hyatt Summerfield Suites hotel to the new part of the development at North Hills. When this is complete in 2010 (expected) North Hills will have two very nice hotels (The Renaissance is scheduled to open in the Fall this year), and be a great place for business travelers to stay and explore.

The Hyatt Summerfield Suites Hotel at North Hills will have 140 rooms spread out over seven stories and 100,000 square feet. Other details and features include:

  • full kitchens
  • living area with a 32 inch flat screen TV
  • separate bedroom
  • complimentary full breakfasts
  • free high-speed internet access
  • 24-hour Guest Market with snacks and quick eats
  • interior access to a fitness center and pool
  • evening socials - Monday through Thursday.

Has anyone ever stayed in a Hyatt Summerfield Suites before? What did you think? And what exactly are the evening socials (and are they fun)?

North Hills Renaissance Hotel - Now vs. the Future

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

The 229-room Renaissance Hotel at North Hills is being built just over by Gold’s Gym and Natural Body (guests will have direct access to both). Opening in November 2008, the hotel will be a smoke-free facility and will be one of the more premium (if not the best) hotels in this area. Click here for a printable fact sheet about The Renaissance.

They’re making rapid progress on the construction of The Renaissance Hotel. It will be great to have somewhere nice where guests and business colleagues can stay when they come to visit this area, instead of having to put them up in a hotel by Crabtree Valley Mall.

See below for some pictures of how things look now, compared to a mock-up of what the hotel will look like when it is finished. Click through twice to see the largest size pictures.

Gold’s Gym at North Hills

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Gold’s Gym at North Hills Raleigh is one of the nicest gyms I’ve ever been to in my life (not sure if this is saying much since the only other gym I’ve been to is the YMCA). It’s got great workout equipment (machines and free weights), a basketball court, room that has movies playing on a giant screen for you to watch while riding the bike, and clean locker rooms. Let me say it again–clean locker rooms!

Everyone who works there is very friendly and always willing to spot/help. However, since the gym is such a quality place to work out in Raleigh, it can get a little crowded, especially right after work around 5:30 or 6pm. But even then, it’s not too bad.

From what I’ve heard, guests of the new Renaissance hotel will have access to this gym–not sure if it will be free or paid.

My one complaint would be the quality of their basketballs. Some of them have outer covers that are peeling off, so they need to replace these basketballs. Other than that, the gym is great. If you join, make sure that you’ll be going often, since you have to sign a contract for a year (and from what I’ve read, it can be pretty tough to get out of the contract, if you decide you want to stop going).

What does everyone else think about the Gold’s Gym at North Hills?
